What Nnenna, Founder of Akemma, is Wearing

Nnenna is the founder and creative director of Akemma, a clothing brand known for its elevated, story-rich pieces. Nnenna designs with intention—and wears her values on her sleeve, quite literally. Her brand champions individuality and celebrates women who want to express themselves through thoughtful, versatile fashion.

We caught up with her for our What X is Wearing series to talk dream wardrobes, unforgettable outfits, and the one item that always saves the day when time is tight.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a fashion entrepreneur with a passion for intentional and versatile design. I run Akemma, a brand that creates elevated, story-rich pieces for women who want to express themselves through style. I’m really passionate about individuality and making people feel seen through what they wear.

If you could raid any celebrity’s wardrobe for a red-carpet event, who would it be?

Definitely Alison Toby. I resonate deeply with her style—it’s refined, yet expressive, just like the pieces I create for Akemma. She knows how to balance boldness with elegance, which is something I admire.

What’s your dream vacation destination and what’s the first thing you’d pack?

I’ve actually already been! I went to Monaco for my 27th birthday and it was a dream. I travelled during the spring and packed mostly dresses and an oversized blazer. It was the perfect mix—easy, elegant, and travel-friendly.

You’re running late for a high-stakes meeting. What’s your go-to “I have my life together” outfit?

Easy! I’d throw on baggy black pants, a white round-neck polo, and tuck it in with a belt. Then I’d layer a black oversized blazer over it, slip on some mules, and grab a big, bold-colored bag. It’s structured without trying too hard, my kind of power outfit.

What’s the most unforgettable outfit you’ve ever worn—and what made it special?

It was actually an asoebi I wore three years ago. It wasn’t just about the fabric or the fit—it was special because I was in it. That outfit felt like a celebration of self, and I felt amazing in it. Sometimes, the best style moments are the most personal ones.

What’s your fashion philosophy in one sentence?

Wear you. Not trends—and always iron your clothes! 😅

How much do you budget for fashion monthly (or bi-monthly or quarterly)?

Unfortunately… there’s no particular number. I’m addicted to clothes—if I see it and like it, I buy it. So when it comes to fashion budgeting, my mantra is:
“Swipe first, panic later.”

Whether she’s designing for others or dressing for herself, Nnenna embodies the idea that fashion isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling seen. Her effortless blend of storytelling, structure, and spontaneity makes her style one to watch—and, if you’re lucky, to wear.
